Looking for a getaway idea for this year? Plan a weekend in Greensboro. I must admit, I lived 15 minutes from Greensboro during college and never took the time to explore it. Man, was I missing out! The Gate City is full of street art, delicious southern fare, and important history. Check out this guide with my best things to do in Greensboro, NC.
There’s plenty to explore in the south end of downtown Greensboro. Park the car and walk around South Elm Street and you’re sure to find something interesting. Shop vintage at Realigned, snuggle a kitten at Crooked Tail Cat Cafe, or check out the new creative hub Tracks Bazaar. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, explore the funky living museum Elsewhere.
The International Civil Rights Center & Museum is a must-see during your time in Greensboro. Take a docent-led tour to see the exact lunch counters where the Greensboro sit-ins took place in 1960.
One of my favorite things to do in Greensboro, NC is explore the incredible public art throughout downtown. From emoji art to celebrity faces to the denim statues of the Jeansboro project, you’ll find art around just about every corner.
Probably the most visually artistic brewery I’ve ever been to, Pig Pounder Brewery is one of my new favorite spots in Greensboro. I can’t even count how many murals are crammed into this neat space both indoors and outdoors. If it’s available, take a seat inside the Miss Piggy shipping container to enjoy your beer and people watch.
There’s nothing better than a massive, buttery biscuit for brunch, am I right? Smith Street Diner is the place to go for an authentic country-style breakfast in Greensboro. I promise you won’t leave hungry!
Owned by Greensboro Natives, Joymongers Brewing Company is a craft brewery with plenty of beers on tap and a cozy, casual atmosphere. Located just a few blocks from the heart of downtown, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a beer or two here before or after you explore.
I hope this list of things to do in Greensboro inspires you to check out give the Gate City a chance. Interested in exploring more North Carolina cities? Check out this guide to a weekend in Winston-Salem. Happy exploring!
